Why Am I Going to Church?

A few weeks ago, Manny and I, while getting ready to go to church very early in the morning had a brief conversation…

Manny: Where are we going?
Me: To the Church
Manny: Are we going to the class to learn about God?
Me: Yes and also to worship God.

His Will or My Will?

One of the things that we as followers of Jesus and children of God are called to do is to be connected with God, to have a personal relationship with Him; Jesus tells us: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” Mark 12.30. Upon reading this the only thing that is on my mind is how much I love God? How much do you love God? What does this mean to you? What implications does it have? How do I love God? What would be my answer to the question; do you love your wife or husband, your children, your parents, your siblings, your friends? What am I willing to be and do for them? What am I willing to be and do for God?

John 14: 21-24 “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”

So to love God is to do His will, to obey what He says?

¿Qué tanto ama usted a Dios? ¿Qué significa esto para usted? ¿Qué implicaciones tiene? ¿Cómo lo hago? Cuál sería mi respuesta a la pregunta ¿amas a tu esposa o esposo, a tus hijos, a tus padres, a tus hermanos, tus amigos?

Yo: Manny, escúchame, no me estás escuchando…
Manny: Pero quiero escuchar,

This year, in the month of April, it’ll be my son, Manny’s fourth birthday, wow…

Before our adorable son was born, my wife and I made the decision that Manny would learn English as his first language, so now he is the one that teaches English to us. There’s a conversation he and I have quite often:

Me: Manny, listen to me, you are not listening…
Manny: But I want to listen
Me: But listen to me, you are not listening
Manny: But I want to listen…

It’s something that repeats day after day after day.

I see myself in the mirror and I see what I am. I see Manny and many times I see myself in him. I listen to him and I can hear myself. It scares me sometimes, I don’t want my son to be like me, I want him to be much better than me in all aspects. What father doesn’t want that?
