What do you want for Christmas?

It’s December, and the streets and houses are filled with decorations and colored lights. The predominant colors are green, red, black, and gray, too. There’s cold weather, rain in some places, and in others snow falls. People run from one place to another really fast. Supermarkets are full and malls open early and close late. There’s nowhere to park the car. Many people work, while others are on vacation. Some are in hospitals, others cooking their favorite dishes, and others are in jail. There are many social and family commitments, too.

Someone asked me today, “What does Manny want for Christmas?” My answer was: “peanut butter and cookies”. And this made me think about lots of things about me as a person and what I want for Christmas. What do you want for Christmas?

This is the season when many celebrate Jesus’ birth. He received presents. And at the same time He came to give and these are some of the reasons why Jesus came:

  1. Because the Father sent Him
  2. To do God’s will
  3. To fulfill the law
  4. To bring light to a world of darkness
  5. So you can live, and live abundantly
  6. To find and save what had been lost
  7. To give us everlasting life

Jesus, being in Nazareth, read Isaiah saying: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” and after He finished reading and paused He said: “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” – Luke 4:18-21.

As 2016 comes to a close, here is what I want for Christmas:

  1. Spiritual healing: to live a healthy, holy life of service.
  2. Freedom from that selfish me that does not surrender completely to do God’s will.
  3. The ability to see others as Jesus sees me, do as He did and be more like Him.
  4. Ears to hear the Holy Spirit’s voice.

So, what do you want?
