Rejoice!

“The Times They Are A-Changin'”

Wow, did Bob Dylan have it right? This statement still rings true. But Bob was no prophet. Anyone with the faintest awareness of history can see that things are never twice the same. Change has been apart of our world since it started spinning. You would think that we would understand this, but some of us continue to live in dread and fear and doubt. But NOT anymore! We must rejoice.

Jeremiah writes in Lamentations 3 that he has hope because God’s compassion does not fail, that His faithfulness is great and that it is good for us to have hope and wait on the Lord. How can Jeremiah speak such positive words? How can he have so much optimism? Surely he knows the troubles of his day. No doubt he is aware of the demise of his country and is acquainted with all the troubles that have come upon its citizens. But the prophet still has hope! If Jeremiah can have hope, surely we can.

Indeed the times are a changin’ … BUT God is still the same.

We need to be reminded that we worship the everlasting God. We serve a faithful Lord. We are imbued with an eternal spirit, which is the Spirit of God. It is that spirit that leads us not to fear but to FAITH. It leads us to HOPE. It thrives in JOY and reminds us that “I don’t know about tomorrow … but I know who holds tomorrow”.

When we remember, it can lead us to a time of great rejoicing and praise to God. When we worship we are reminded of all the blessings God has richly given. When we sing his praises we reminisce about his faithfulness in uncertain times. We see clearly the love of God.

“Time is filled with swift transition.” But will we “hold to God’s unchanging hand”? When we do, we will be afforded the grand opportunity to walk by faith and have joy again and again in our Lord. The world will keep spinning, and with each revolution comes change but “I will say it again, Rejoice!” (Phil 4:4, NIV)
